Bruno Mars and Kendrick Lamar were the big winners at this year’s Grammys, while Jay Z failed to pick up one award.

Mars scooped the big prizes of the evening including the coveted Album of the Year for 24k Magic as well as Song of the Year for That’s What I like at Sunday’s ceremony in New York.

Lamar was awarded Best Music Video and Best Rap Album while Ed Sheeran picked up Best Pop Album for Divide.

Despite being hotly-tipped to win big for his album 4:44, Jay Z missed out in all eight categories he was nominated in.

Alessia Cara was the only female artist to win a major prize at this year’s ceremony, winning the Best Newcomer gong.

Despite missing out on awards, Kesha was one of the main talking points of the event thanks to her powerful performance of Praying.

Dressed in white and leading the charge of women wearing white rose pins in solidarity of the movement against sexual abuse in the industry, the singer earned a standing ovation.

“Tonight, I am proud to stand in solidarity as not just an artist, but a young woman, with my fellow sisters in this room who make up the music industry — artists, writers, assistants, publicists, CEOs, producers, engineers, and women from all sectors of the business,” said Janelle Monae as she introduced Kesha.

“We are also daughters, wives, mothers, sisters, and human beings. To those who would dare try and silence us, we offer you two words: #Timesup. We say Time's Up for pay inequality, discrimination or harassment of any kind, and the abuse of power.

“We come in peace, but we mean business. It's not just going on in Hollywood, or in Washington, it's right here in our industry as well.”
