Alan Shearer has hit out at “sexist pigs” who asked his daughter to move so men who were "very interested in football" could watch the World Cup semi-final.

Chloe Shearer posted a furious tweet an hour into the tense clash with Croatia that saw England crash out of the World Cup.

She explained how a man behind her had asked the former England player's daughter to move from her spot in a busy pub and let his friends who were using the toilets enjoy the game.

Ms Shearer wrote: “In a pub trying to watch the football (like the rest of the country) and a lad behind us goes “sorry girls we have people at the loo coming back that are very interested in the football so can you move”...EXCUSE ME?! #girlslovefootballtoo #sexistpig #itscominghome.”

Her 47-year-old father who has been covering the tournament for the BBC in Moscow shared the tweet his daughter appeared to post from Wandsworth, south west London.

He suggested his daughter make a rude comment to the men before “coming to say it your dad”.

The former Newcastle United star wrote: “You should have replied, I’m surprised you could find your k***!! Now tell him to come and say it to your dad!”

Fans were quick to praise Shearer’s parenting skills.

One person branded him “dad of the month” while another said: “love you big al. What a top, top guy & centre forward.”

Fans were left devastated when the team lost out on a place in the finals in extra time.
