Tottenham's Harry Kane expects to return from injury quicker and stronger after changing diet

Harry Kane believes he can become quicker and stronger when he returns from injury after changing his diet.

The Tottenham forward faces a spell on the sidelines after damaging ankle ligaments for the second time this season - though his club believe the problem is less severe than the one that kept him out of 10 games in six weeks between September and November.

Standard Sport reported yesterday that Kane is hopeful of playing a part in at least one of Tottenham’s three high-profile games in April and May: the FA Cup semi-final against Chelsea over the weekend of April 22-23, the home derby with Arsenal on April 30, and the meeting with Manchester United - which could be the last fixture at White Hart Lane - over the weekend of May 13-14.

Kane’s injury means he will struggle to retain the golden boot he won last season for finishing as the Premier League’s top scorer.

But speaking before he hurt his ankle in the 6-0 FA Cup quarter-final win over Millwall, Kane believes a change in his eating habits will make him even more effective.

Kane, speaking to EASPORTS.com, said: “My diet has actually changed slightly since January. I have got a new chef who I have been working with around my nutrition and helping me become a little bit leaner and quicker, which seems to be working.

“I’ve always said I want to keep working on my power and my speed, I’ve always thought it’s a part of my game I can improve on so there is still plenty to work on.

"I’m the type of player who feels they can always get better so it’s just about working hard.

“I still work on all parts of my game as much as possible. When I’m doing finishing drills I will work on all sorts of finishes, whether that be set pieces, crosses, one on ones or from the edge of the box.

"I try to cover as many bases as possible because in a game you never know what type of chance will come your way. I try and be as ready as possible.”

Kane also believes he may one day be able to replace Alan Shearer as the Premier League’s all-time top scorer.

The former England, Blackburn and Newcastle striker managed 260 goals in the competition, while Kane currently has 68 in 108 appearances.

Both Mauricio Pochettino and Shearer himself back Kane to reach the top of the charts and the 23-year-old acknowledged: “It’s always there as a thought and I think every Premier League striker would love to be the all-time top goal scorer.

“But there is still a long way to go and lot of hard work to be done in that time, maybe even a bit of luck as well with avoiding injuries. Hopefully I can stay fit and strong.

“You never know, though. Shearer’s number of goals is unbelievable and will be very hard to beat but I’ve just got to keep going, season by season and we’ll see how I’m getting on in a few years.”
