Tottenham will wear specially commissioned warm-up shirts to show their support for former player Ryan Mason as he recovers from a skull fracture in Hull City's Premier League defeat to Chelsea last weekend.

Hull midfielder Mason has been in hospital at St Mary’s Hospital in Paddington since Sunday.

The 25-year-old spent 18 years at Spurs, progressing through the academy to make 70 first team appearances before departing for Hull earlier this season. At Saturday’s FA Cup home game against Wycombe, Spurs players will offer their best wishes to their former team mate.

In a statement on the club website Spurs said: "As a show of our support and feelings towards a player who proved such a credit to Tottenham Hotspur during his time here, our current players will wear specially-commissioned warm-up t-shirts on the pitch at White Hart Lane prior to Saturday's FA Cup fourth round tie against Wycombe Wanderers, featuring 'Get well soon Ryan' messaging on the front and 'Mason 8' - in reference to the midfielder's most recent squad number with us - on the reverse."

Mauricio Pochettino, assistant manager Jesus Perez and academy head John McDermott visited Mason in hospital on Thursday after the squad returned from a warm weather training camp in Barcelona.

“The squad sent a video from Barcelona to him,” Pochettino said. “He is a special player for us and also for me personally, he grew up here and is a person we love.

“It is important for us to know how he is and share some times with him. It will be fantastic for him and for us and we will try to give some encouragement.”

On Tuesday Hull confirmed that Mason was making “excellent recovery” after undergoing surgery.
