Manchester City completed their stroll into the EFL Cup final with a 1-0 second-leg victory over Burton Albion at the Pirelli Stadium.

Pep Guardiola’s side broke the record for the biggest winning margin in EFL Cup semi-final history, as Sergio Aguero’s goal, added to a 9-0 first leg win, secured a 10-0 aggregate triumph.

Despite that lead, Guardiola included the likes of Aguero, Kevin De Bruyne and Riyad Mahrez in his starting line-up, alongside with some academy graduates like Phil Foden, and fringe players such as Fabian Delph.

It was Aguero who opened the scoring after 26 minutes, sweeping home from Mahrez’s cut back after excellent work from De Bruyne.

Burton were much more resilient in front of a home crowd than they had been at the Etihad, and a similar thumping never looked likely.

They even came close to levelling the score on the night when William Miller’s strike was cleared off the line by Eric Garcia.

City will defend their title against the winners of tomorrow night’s semi-final between Tottenham and Chelsea, with Spurs leading 1-0 from the first leg.
