Injured Harry Kane backs Tottenham to catch Chelsea in Premier League title race

Harry Kane has backed his Tottenham team-mates to chase down Chelsea in his absence.

Kane is likely to spend at least five weeks on the sidelines after damaging ankle ligaments in the 6-0 win over Millwall in last Sunday’s FA Cup quarter-final.

Although second-placed Spurs are 10 points behind leaders Chelsea with 11 matches remaining, Kane still believes they can overhaul them — and took inspiration from Barcelona’s 6-1 Champions League win over Paris St Germain, when the Spanish champions overturned a 4-0 first-leg deficit.

Kane told EASPORTS.com: “We have to keep believing and we have a team who do believe. As you saw from Barcelona against PSG, anything is possible in football.

“We are in a good position, second in the table but quite a few points behind Chelsea. We have a run of games where we are playing teams around mid-table and in the bottom half, so if we can get some good results, you never know.”

Kane is hopeful of playing a part in at least one of Tottenham’s big fixtures in April and May. They take on Chelsea in the FA Cup semi-final at Wembley over the weekend of April 22-23, before League matches against Arsenal (April 30) and Manchester United (weekend of May 13-14) at White Hart Lane.

Before the Chelsea game, Spurs face Southampton, Burnley, Swansea, Watford and Bournemouth — all matches for which they will be favourites.

They will have to do so without their top scorer, however. Although Tottenham believe Kane’s injury is not as severe as the ankle problem that kept him out of action for 10 games in the autumn, his recovery time remains uncertain.
