Chelsea have refused to meet Napoli’s deadline over the £7million release clause for manager Maurizio Sarri.

The Blues had until last night to reach agreement over the figure for Sarri, whose contract at Napoli expires in 2020 but has effectively been dismissed after president Aurelio De Laurentiis hired Carlo Ancelotti as their new manager.

Talks were held with Sarri’s representatives last week over a two-year deal with an option for another 12 months.

The Blues are now waiting to see if Sarri’s legal team will pursue a case of constructive dismissal against Napoli and pressure De Laurentiis into a compromise.

Standard Sport revealed last week that former Paris Saint-Germain boss Laurent Blanc has emerged as a back-up option.

Blanc has been out of work since being fired by PSG in 2016, but knows the Premier League well having played for Manchester United between 2001-03.

Chelsea are also huge admirers of Fulham boss Slavisa Jokanovic, while an approach for Zinedine Zidane has been mooted following his surprise resignation from Real Madrid.
