Nicole Kidman recreated the iconic look made famous by Angelina Jolie at the London Film Festival premiere of new film Lion.

The Australian A-lister wore a floor-length gown with a daring thigh-high split as she walked the red carpet on Wednesday night, drawing comparisons with Angie’s 2012 Oscars look.

Appearing to nearly lose control of the gown at one point, Kidman was forced to hold down the skirt as she posed for photos with co-star Dev Patel.

While Kidman might be used to red carpet openings, this one may be her most important for a while as it’s for the film that is expected to earn her an Oscar nomination.

After gaining rave reviews when it premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival last month, the Garth Davis-directed feature is being tipped for award season success.

Based on Saroo Brierley's memoir A Long Way Home, the story details his quest to find his family after he falling asleep in a train carriage in India as a child.

Patel, best known for his role in Slumdog Millionaire, plays the adult Saroo, who is haunted by lurid memories of his past and uses Google Earth to find his original home, while Kidman plays his adopted mother.

“My relationship with success is a bit distant because I try to stay very much in the journey,” said Kidman earlier in the day at the BFI.

“Winning the Oscar was a turning point, but not in terms of my life as an actor, because it was incredibly validating, but it actually symbolised loneliness to me because I didn't have anyone to share it with at that stage in my life.

“I was like 'Wow, this means I need to get my act together and I want to fall in love' so it was weird."

"I am just fortunate that I am endlessly curious about human beings, I can still fall to my knees when I see great theatre, great cinema, a painting, reading a novel I never want to finish."

Jolie became one of the main talking points of the Oscars four years ago when her right leg nearly broke social media.

The dress that launched a thousand memes became the source of much parody and fashion inspiration.

Lion will be released in UK cinemas on November 25.
