Robert De Niro has apologised to Canada on the behalf of the US and Donald Trump, just one day after he slammed the President on stage at the Tony Awards.

The Oscar-winning actor tore into Trump again during a trip to Canada on Monday, directing an apology to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau following his war of words with the President at the G7 summit last weekend.

Speaking at the opening of a new property development with partner and chef Nobu Matsuhisa in Toronto, De Niro dubbed Trump’s behaviour a “disgrace”.

“I just want to make a note of apology for the idiotic behaviour of my president,” he said.

“It’s a disgrace, and I apologise to Justin Trudeau, too, and the other people at the G-7.”

The comments prompted cheers from the crowd at the launch, similar to the standing ovation he received as he slammed Trump at Sunday’s award ceremony.

Despite having agreed to support allies in agreeing to a joint communique, Trump later pulled out, blaming Trudeau.
