David Brent fans will be treated to new music from the former office middle manager this week.

Ricky Gervais has revealed his alter ego will release his first single since his cover of If You Don't Know Me By Now on Friday.

Gervais – who reprised his role as Brent for new film Life on the Road – announced the news on Twitter, and warned fans that the accompanying music video will be “cringey”.

He posted: “This Friday, David Brent will release his first single since ‘If you don't know me by now’, and the accompanying video is even more cringey.”

Speaking about the new album from Brent’s band Foregone Conclusion, Gervais added: “Apart from all the new tracks the Album features full versions of Paris Nights, Spaceman & of course Freelove Freeway :).”

Brent will be hoping to have more success with his new material after his first single If You Don't Know Me By Now flopped.

In an episode of The Office he revealed that the single failed to make the Top 100 and cost £42,000 to record, market and distribute.

He sold a measly 150 copies and made £1 on each one.

News of the new music comes days after fans were treated to the official trailer for Life on the Road.

The film is set 12 years after The Office and follows Brent as he attempts to wave goodbye to his job as a travelling salesman for Lavichem and fund a UK tour with Forgone Conclusion.

The trailer sees Brent shoot a “fat girl in the face with a t-shirt gun” and make jokes about "the handicapped" as he takes to the stage in a bid to find fame and fortune as a rock star.

Razorlight and We Are Scientists drummer Andy Burrows plays a member of Brent's band while other roles include Jo Hartley as love-struck colleague Pauline, Tom Basden as Brent’s road manager Dan, Andrew Brooke as Brent's office enemy Jezza, Nina Sosanya as his therapist and a cameo from Peter Andre.

Life on the Road is slated for UK cinema release on August 19.
