Katie Hopkins has described Meryl Streep as a ‘geriatric fool’ after she hit out at Donald Trump during the Golden Globes.

The controversial TV star has waded into the row between Streep and the President-elect, who described the Oscar-winner as ‘over-rated’.

Self-confessed Trump supporter Hopkins wrote on Twitter: “Feel a bit sorry for #MerylStreep. Poor old geriatric fool. Doesn't realise the election is over. And she lost.”

Followers were quick to respond to the LBC broadcaster, with one person writing: “Yet her talent and work will far outlive your pathetic contribution to the world.”

“THANK GOD for poor geriatric fools like her who speak out. She knows election is lost but won't tolerate PEOTUS mocking disabled,” another wrote.

Streep was praised for her candid speech about Trump during Sunday night’s ceremony, in which she called him out for mocking a disabled reporter.

“This instinct to humiliate, when it’s modelled by someone in the public platform, by someone powerful, it filters down into everybody’s life, because it kinda gives permission for other people to do the same thing,” she said on stage.

“Disrespect invites disrespect, violence incites violence. And when the powerful use their position to bully others we all lose.”

Trump later wrote on Twitter: “Meryl Streep, one of the most over-rated actresses in Hollywood, doesn't know me but attacked last night at the Golden Globes. She is a.....

“Hillary flunky who lost big. For the 100th time, I never "mocked" a disabled reporter (would never do that) but simply showed him.......

““groveling" when he totally changed a 16 year old story that he had written in order to make me look bad. Just more very dishonest media!”
