Thousands of people have signed a petition urging the Government to ban Donald Trump from entering the UK.

The Republican candidate for the US presidential election sparked outrage yesterday after stating Muslims should not be allowed to enter America.

He then later branded parts of London “so radicalised that the police are afraid for their own lives.”

He faced huge backlash from senior political figures and MPs and now a petition has been set up calling on Parliament to ban Trump from the country.

The petition reads: “The signatories believe Donald J Trump should be banned from UK entry.

“The UK has banned entry to many individuals for hate speech. The same principles should apply to everyone who wishes to enter the UK.

“If the United Kingdom is to continue applying the 'unacceptable behaviour' criteria to those who wish to enter its borders, it must be fairly applied to the rich as well as poor, and the weak as well as powerful.”

More than 50,000 people have already signed the petition hours after it was set up.

If the total number of signatories reaches 100,000, it will be considered for a debate in Parliament.
