A baby girl who was born with a tooth in a rare case has had it removed at just 12 days old.

Isla-Rose Heasman was born with a single tooth, despite that fact that most infants begin teething at around six months.

Her mum Jasmin, from Plymouth, told the BBC she "never expected" to take her newborn to the dentist but said that she was very brave.

"She had to have it taken out as it was wobbly. She was braver than me, she didn't really cry," she said.

"I had to go out of the room crying because I couldn't stand seeing my princess in pain.”

Isla-Rose, who was given a sticker after the procedure, was the youngest patient at the Seven Trees Dental Access Centre.

She had to be given some numbing cream because she was too young to be given anaesthetic.

Jasmin said that the dentists weren’t sure why Isla-Rose was born with the tooth, on her lower gum, and that it was “very rare”.

The British Dental Association one in 2,000 babies are born with visible teeth at birth, which can cause problems with breast feeding or create a risk of the child swallowing it.
