A giant mural has appeared depicting US presidential hopeful Donald Trump engaged in a passionate kiss with Boris Johnson.

Around the picture is painted the message, "Not #INFORTHIS? Register to vote on the EU referendum now!", in an apparent bid to encourage people to sign up to vote before the impending deadline.

The former London mayor is one of the biggest names campaigning for Britain to leave the European Union, while Republican presidential candidate Trump has also spoken out in favour of Brexit.

The mural, called "The Kiss of Death" was painted on the wall of Westmoreland House in Bristol earlier on Monday evening by a group of artists commissioned by campaign group We Are Europe..

The campaign is run by a "collective of friends, artists, campaigners, creatives and doers", and adds "many of us have never been involved in politics before."

The street art has generated a flurry of interest since it was first spotted, with pictures of the mural being shared hundreds of times on Twitter.

Labour Party Deputy Leader Tom Watson, a vocal Remain campaigner, shared an image of the painting, writing: "Graffiti in Bristol. It's mesmerising."

Harriet Kingaby, a spokesperson from We Are Europe, said: "People need to look at this image and think - is this the future I want? Research shows that most people in their 20s and 30s would vote to remain in the EU, but 7.5 million people still haven’t registered to vote.

"Unless that changes, it's likely the UK will leave the EU and this is the kind of 'special relationship' that might become a reality. Don't let other people decide your future - register to vote before the deadline on June 7th."

Felix Braun, one of the artists who painted the mural, added: “Today was surreal and brilliant, painting a mural that evoked so much laughter and strong opinions from passers by.

"People were beeping their horns, stopping their cars to take pictures out of the window, shouting their approval, coming up and shaking our hands.

"I'm voting in and it was great to chat to so many people today who will be registering to do the same. It was a pleasure to be involved."

The EU Referendum will be held on June 23, and voter registration ends on June 7.
