Jeremy Corbyn and David Cameron clashed over the London mayoral battle in the Commons this afternoon.

Labour’s leader attacked Zac Goldsmith’s campaign for “systematically smearing” Sadiq Khan with allegations of extremism.

But Tory leader Mr Cameron hit back by repeating his allegations that Mr Khan repeatedly shared platforms with hardliners, including a terrorist who trained one of the London 7/7 bombers.

The confrontation came after Mr Cameron used Prime Minister’s Questions to demand that Mr Corbyn apologise for past comments in which he called militant groups Hamas and Hezbollah his “friends”.

Mr Corbyn turned the tables by criticising Mr Cameron for last week attacking Mr Khan for sharing platforms with preacher Suliman Gani, saying: “It turns out Mr Gani is actually an active Conservative supporter who has shared platforms with Zac Goldsmith.”

Mr Cameron went back on the attack saying: “There is a pattern of behaviour with the Hon Member for Tooting...he shared a platform with a man who called for Jews to be drown in the ocean...if he wants to know why he has a problem with anti-Semitism it’s because his candidates share platform after platform after platform with extremists.”

He said Mr Gani had “described women as ‘subservient to men’”.
