Single figures: Temperatures are set to plummet to single figures this weekend

Londoners are set to say goodbye to summer as temperatures in the capital plummet to single figures this weekend.

Met Office experts have said the weekend will be “cloudy and chilly” with only a slight chance of sunshine early on Sunday morning.

The capital is set to be blighted with cloudy skies and showers for most of the weekend.

Temperatures on Saturday afternoon are predicted to hit highs of 15C but will feel much colder due to easterly winds.

The mercury is set to plummet on Saturday night, hitting lows of 5C.

Forecaster Nicola Maxey said: “A break in the clouds mean it will feel very chilly on Saturday night and Sunday morning.

“However, this does mean that early on Sunday morning some sunshine may break through the clouds.”

Graham Madge, from the Met Office, previously told the Standard that this year’s autumn weather has been difficult to predict due to “changeable conditions.”

He added: “There is currently low confidence for the forecast during the second half of October, however the most likely scenario is a continuation of the more changeable conditions.”
