Two men were shot outside a busy Tube station following a shocking week of violent crime in London.

Armed police swarmed on Mile End station in east London after the double shooting on Friday night.

Witnesses reported seeing at least one man being treated by medics outside the station, which was closed off by police following the shooting.

The two men, both in their 20s, were taken to hospital in a serious condition.

One witness wrote on Twitter: “So many police vans and cars and police stood directing people away. Taped off all outside William Hill too.”

Another witness, Oli Hannaford, added: "Just saw a body in mile end with about 30 police people about. Apparently a shooting. What's going on around here man".

And Vic Hood said: "Just got to Mile End as someone was shot. Armed police and ambulances everywhere.”

The latest incident comes after a horrific spike in violent crime in London saw eight people killed in the space of seven days.

Seventeen men under the age of 25 have now been killed in violent crimes in London so far in 2018.

A Met Police spokesman said officers were called to reports of gunshots at Mile End station just after 10.30pm on Friday.

He added: “Officers, including firearms officers, attended. Two men, aged in their 20s, were found suffering from gunshot injuries.

“They were both taken by the London Ambulance Service to an east London hospital where they remain in a stable condition. Their injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

“Officers remain at the scene. The Trident and Area Crime Command has been informed.

“There have been no arrests and enquiries continue.”
