A teenager was fighting for life today and another left seriously injured after four schoolchildren were stabbed in the latest eruption of street violence in London.

The teenagers, all thought to be 15 or 16, were attacked as fighting between two gangs broke out on a Camberwell estate - just minutes away from where drill rapper Sidique Kamara, known as Incognito, was stabbed to death earlier this month.

Witnesses reported seeing one teenager crying for help as he collapsed.

All four teenagers were rushed to hospital suffering from stab wounds after the attack outside Landor House on the Elmington estate at around 5.25pm last night.

Six teenagers, also aged around 15 or 16, were arrested and were being questioned at police stations in south London today on suspicion of violent disorder and grievous bodily harm. The crime scene was left littered with bloodied clothing, trainers and medical equipment after the clash.

The area is a short walk from where Kamara, 23, was stabbed to death on August 1. Another rapper, Latwaan Griffiths, 18, was stabbed to death and his body dumped on the road from a scooter in Camberwell last month.

An off-duty nurse told the Standard she saw a boy with serious injuries after yesterday’s stabbings.

She said: “My friend and I came downstairs and we saw boys running across the grass. Then we heard someone screaming and we followed the sound.

“We saw two police officers who were first ones there and helping a young guy.

“One of the officers asked for my friend’s jacket to put pressure on the boy’s abdomen. There was a great amount of blood.

“The officers were trying to rip off his shirt. I heard the boy saying he couldn’t breathe and the officers kept telling him to ‘pant, pant’.”

A large police presence at the scene of the stabbing yesterday

Another witness, who asked not to be named, said he saw a group of youths running towards the crime scene.

He said: “Then 10 minutes later I heard people shouting and bawling out the back there. When I looked round...I saw the youth come running from the block. He came to the corner and dropped.”

Another youth was said to have been stabbed in the “leg or thigh.”

Yesterday’s attack also happened on the same estate and only a few hundred yards from where another teenager, Katerina Makunova, 17, was stabbed to death on July 12.

Superintendent Annmarie Cowley said: “What we can say for certain is if there needed to be an example of the utter senselessness of knife crime, then this is it; four males are in hospital. It is beyond comprehension.”

Harriet Harman, MP for Camberwell and Peckham, said she was very concerned by the quadruple stabbing and was in contact with police and councillors.

Any witnesses or anyone with information is asked to call police on 101 or ring Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
