Was it just us who noticed that Alexander McQueen’s new designer Seán McGirr’s pinstripe suit and lurid green shirt look at his debut for the brand was an almost exact copy of the outfit Cruz Beckham wore out partying in London two weeks before?

McGirr — a relative enigma in the fashion industry until the October announcement came that he would take the baton from Sarah Burton, creative director of McQueen 26 years — certainly made a splash with his 4 March show.

The Irish designer, formerly head of ready-to-wear at JW Anderson, muscled quite a shift in brand direction. It appeared as though his focus was hook Gen Z — cases in point, dresses made of metal and ‘hoof boots’, which came complete with iron shoes.

Nowhere was McGirr’s appreciation for youngsters more evident than in his unlikely muse, however…one 19-year-old Cruz Beckham. While we can assume it was coincidence, the second-youngest member of the Beckham junior brigade (joining Brooklyn, Romeo and Harper Seven) flaunted about Perfect magazine’s London Fashion Week party looking every inch his dad in the 90s — bright shirt, wide collar, chain and suit. The look was all but replicated for McQueen’s autumn winter 2024 collection.

Other supporters of the outfit? Look no further than Saltburn and Euphoria star Jacob Elordi, who, while attending the 2023 GQ Men Of The Year at Bar Marmont in a Bottega Veneta in pinstripes and yellow button down.

As for Cruz, lets see if he can follow his father by way of fashion influence — green shirts and ham, anyone?
