Steph McGovern halts filming for The Steph Show to ‘give her family their home back’

The moves comes amid claims neighbours were annoyed by the noise

Steph McGovern has announced that filming for her new daytime programme The Steph Show will be halted next month, with Channel 4's Ian Katz confirming that the production "stretched the patience of neighbours a bit too far."

The former BBC Breakfast presenter, 37, launched the chat show sooner than planned at the end of March, in a bid to raise viewers’ spirits during the coronavirus crisis.

She has been hosting the series from her home in Yorkshire due to lockdown measures, transforming her garage into a makeshift control room for a skeleton team of producers and talking to other colleagues and show guests via video link.

Her living room and kitchen has also been decked out with automatically controlled cameras, she revealed in the first episode.

Posting on Twitter yesterday, McGovern, who welcomed her first child in November, admitted that she had “never expected” to produce a “lockdown show” for so long and said it was time to “give our family our home back.”

“As much as I’ve loved doing a lockdown show at home I never expected it to go on this long,” she wrote.

“We’ve decided it’s time to have a break and give my family our home back. The proper prog will be launching when the Leeds studio is sorted, I may still be wearing slippers.

She added: “The last locked down version of #TheStephShow will be next Thurs 7th May.

“Then the plan is to launch again at our fancy studios in Leeds Docks in a couple of months, once they’re safely up and running.”

Discussing The Steph Show today, director of programmes Katz admitted: “I think we have stretched the patience of the neighbours a bit too far and had to take it off and we want to wait until we can get into the studio and produce the show we want to make.

“We will be producing the original Steph Show as soon as possible.”

Channel 4 declined to comment further when approached by Standard Online.
