Prepare to say hello to Star Trek’s latest captain: Jason Isaacs is joining the crew of the Discovery.

The British actor, known for his role as Lucius Malfoy in Harry Potter, is beaming up into the long-running sci-fi saga.

Isaacs will be playing Captain Lorca in Star Trek: Discovery, a new TV series set ten years before the original show.

Discovery is being developed by CBS in the States, but will available across the world – including the UK – on Netflix.

The series has already cast The Walking Dead’s Sasha, aka Sonequa Martin-Green, as its lead character, the lieutenant commander on the titular ship.

Also newly announced for the show is Michell Yeoh, star of Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, playing the captain of fellow Starship Shenzhou.

The series is currently in production and does not have a release date. It is set to consist of 13 episodes.

Isaacs recently starred in Netflix original show The OA, and can be seen on the big screen in Gore Verbinski's horror A Cure for Wellness.

Netflix are currently streaming the entire run of Star Trek TV series in the UK, including the original 1968 show, the Animated Series, The Next Generation, Deep Space Nine, Voyager, and Enterprise.

Star Trek: Discovery is due to arrive on Netflix later this year
